Jane Perlmutter, Ph.D.


After spending over twenty-five years in academia and corporate environments Jane founded Gemini Group which provides management consulting services, mainly to higher education and training clients.  She is a consultant-evaluator for the Higher Learning Commission (the regional accrediting body for higher education in the north central region of the country), and a frequent facilitator for its AQIP (Academic Quality Improvement Program) Strategy Forums and other programs.  Jane is also on the boards of examiners for the Baldrige National Quality Awards and the Lincoln State (Illinois) Quality Awards,


Jane began her professional career as an Assistant Professor of Cognitive Psychology and Computer Science at the University of Texas in Austin.  There she managed an interdisciplinary research program supported by grants from the National Science Foundation, trained graduate students, and taught a variety of graduate and undergraduate courses.  She has numerous publications and a Distinguished Teaching Award.  Her formal education includes Masters degrees in Educational Psychology and Computer Science, and a Ph.D. in Cognitive Psychology from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst.  She also received an MBA from New York University’s Executive Program.


Jane spent most of her career in telecommunications at Bell Labs and Bellcore. There she held a variety of positions in human factors, strategic planning and product management.  Her final Bell assignment, as Executive Director of Bellcore’s Training and Education Center (TEC), the largest provider of telecommunications technical training in the world, led her back to work in education.  After leaving Bell, Jane spent five years as Regional Vice President of Operations at DeVry University, one of the largest private, for-profit, higher education systems in North America.  In this role Jane had responsibility for DeVry’s schools in Georgia, Missouri, Ohio and Texas, as well as for managing many systemwide technology initiatives.
